Rescue Dog Didn’t Stop Growling

Meet Kailey. This beautiful dog is a hero in disguise. Thanks to her attentiveness, lots of lives were saved. The German shepherd mix was just days from being euthanized when a woman intervened and rescued her. A month later, the pooch returned the favor.

Kailey had been severely abused during the first two years of her life. She was then rescued and transferred to DeKalb County Animal Services in Decatur, Ga. But sadly, nobody wanted to adopt her.

Kailey didn’t trust anyone. She stayed with her foster family, Jacqueline Berlin and Keith Santer-Peham, for a year; but when nobody showed any interest in adopting her, it was decided that she had to be put to sleep.

“Her one issue was that something has happened to her in in her past so that if you try to touch her and she did not know you she would snap at you. Because of her issue it was really hard to get her adopted,” Jacqueline said.

Jacqueline really wanted to save Kailey, so she shared a Facebook post on the animal shelter’s page, pleading for someone to rescue the poor thing. And thankfully, her request was able to reach a kind stranger!

Suzy Chandler read the post and it moved her heart. She applied to adopt Kailey, hence, saving the pup from looming death.

“The story of what she had been through and it just pulled on our heartstrings, we just thought we would be the perfect people for her,” Suzy said. “It was a perfect match.”

Suzy had no idea, but Kailey would end up saving her life in just a few short weeks.

One day, the woman noticed that Kailey was acting different. She was growling and barking a lot.

“Well, what’s the matter with her,” Suzy wondered. She took the pooch outside to see why she was so worked up. Suzy followed as Kailey ran to the side of the house.

Suzy immediately recognized the strong smell of natural gas and heard a hissing sound coming from the apartment complex next to her home. She knew about the consequences, especially because the apartment was home to families with many children.

The woman immediately dialled 911. The fire department arrived and confirmed that it was a gas leak and they got everyone out of the complex, thankfully, without any injuries. They fixed the leak and everyone was safe again.

Thanks to the incident, Suzy says that she has realized the importance of adopting animals and wants to reach out to others to do the same. “If you have the space, you have room in your heart to take in a needy animal, to love on them, I mean it comes back to you tenfold””

Suzy is glad she could save Kailey’s life and that Kailey could save hers in return. Not only did Kailey save her owner, but she also saved the whole neighbourhood! What a hero she is
