Family Loses Husky In Wildfire

A year-old husky named Max has been living with his family ever since he was very little. His two human sisters absolutely adore him. He loves running outside and playing with possibly anything he finds interesting enough. He also enjoys spending time with his family. Max’s family absolutely loves him and wouldn’t have him any other way. But, the unfortunate campfire in California reached their home too, and they thought they had lost max forever.

The Yeager family’s house was in danger right from the beginning of the campfire. That is why Michel Yeager rushed to pick her older daughter from school and her younger daughter from her dad’s house. Then, she drove home to get Max, by when the fire was already upon them and they had very less time. Sadly, she couldn’t find him anywhere.

“We have a pretty big yard and he always likes to hide under our porch when he’s scared and I wasn’t able to get to him,” Yeager said. “I saw the fire ash falling from the sky and I knew I had to get my girls out. We were only able to stay for less than five minutes.”

By evening, the Yeager family was sure their home had turned into ashes. Two days later, it was confirmed that their home was gone. While they were devastated for the loss of their house, they feared their beloved dog was gone, too.

Max’s chances of surviving were little to none. But the family wouldn’t give up. They posted about him on Facebook, hoping someone will contact them telling them they had seen him. Then, while they were scrolling through their feed, they saw a video about a dog found in the fires and his name was Max.

In the beginning, the family didn’t believe the dog in the video was their own Max because Max is a husky with a thick coat and the dog in the video was yellow and wasn’t at all energetic like Max. However, they decided to take a look anyway.

“My husband Jeff was actually looking through news videos on Facebook and came across one that said they found a dog named Max by Stratton’s Market on Sawmill,” Yeager said. “We live about a few houses down, so we called up the news person [and] asked how he knew his name and everything, and he described his collar.”

When the man described the collar, the Yeagers knew that, indeed, the dog in the video was their Max!

The entire family went to reunite with Max on the first chance they got. When they did meet him though, they couldn’t believe it was the same dog, because all his hair was burnt off and he was in a rough condition. He was in unbearable pain, but when he met his family again, he couldn’t contain himself.

“It was amazing and sad with a lot of emotions from my girls and I,” Yeager said. “He’s the same dog but he looks so different now. My youngest daughter is just so in love with him. At first, she was scared, but after a few minutes she knew it was him.”

Right now, Max is recovering at a veterinary hospital. He isn’t at his best, however, everyone is sure he is going to get through it all. He needs time to heal, but because he is back with his family now, he could face the most difficult challenge and he can face this too.

“He is doing better,” Yeager said. “They say he will make a full recovery, it’s just going to take some time.”
