Dog saved using 3D printed mask

This poor dog had no chance to live but students from medical college designed a 3D printed mask designed to be used as a cast for a dog’s fractured skull. Bitten by a large dog puppy got specially printed for him on a 3D printer lightweight plastic mask, through which the shattered jaw bones quickly fused.

Veterinarians clinics at the University of California at Davis had a chance to try out a new mask, which they developed together with students of the UC Davis College of Engineering. Before they make the mask, the vets received a CT and carried out the necessary surgery.

Based on CT scan, the vets have created a computer model of the skull of the dog, and then adapted it to the requirements FOR a 3D printer and printed from a soft and lightweight but durable plastic.
