The platitudes surrounding the dependable canine attitude are endless.
All dogs go to heaven.
Dog is man’s best friend.
There’s no such thing as a bad dog– only bad owners.
And for “rescues”– dogs saved from shelters or other dire circumstances:
Who rescued whom?
Those of us lucky enough to have a furry friend in our lives can understand the wisdom and truth of these aphorisms when we look to our own animals. The eager enthusiasm with which they wag their tails when we return home from work; the long hours spent silent by our sides in quiet hours; and even the unwelcome gift of a face full of dog drool are each mere tokens of their unlimited affection.
So, it’s almost no surprise that when one dog was rescued by a kind-hearted woman from deadly circumstances, his reaction brought her to tears. It all started with an act of bravery, kindness, and humanity in the face of the inhuman. When one woman witnessed dogs experiencing serious neglect, she knew she has to step up and take action.
I saw abandoned dogs for days with no food, water or shelter, dying in 100 + degrees. They were tied up on two-foot chains, not able to move. I waited to see if someone would help them and I couldn’t sleep at night, so I saved them.
The dog in the front seat of her car then did something that will stay with her the rest of her life. In the midst of all the suffering and pain this poor creature had endured, it met kindness with only the gentlest of gratitude. As his savior sobbed and comforted the pup, the dog turned the tables and began petting her back. It was only a matter of time before his tail was wagging and he was snuggling up against her.
